Brendan Babb
Chief Innovation Officer/i-team Director
Municipality of Anchorage
Brendan Babb is the first Chief Innovation Officer for the Municipality of Anchorage, where he has directed the initially Bloomberg Philanthropies-funded i-team since 2016 — helping city leaders drive bold innovation and deliver better results for residents. The i-team has leveraged behavioral insights, human centered design, data science, SMS texting, and rapid prototyping in a portfolio of projects.
His current focus is making city data AI-ready: building open, composable, low-cost tools that let residents and staff ask questions of municipal data directly, and sharing them so peer cities can replicate the work. A former software developer and co-captain of Code for Anchorage, he holds five U.S. patents, including one from Mars Rover image compression research with UAA & NASA JPL. He enjoys occasionally DJing in unusual places outside.
